Riverside Rascals Day Nursery LTD is a private full day care nursery, which is here to support families in our community, offering a personal service in meeting the needs of you and your child. As working parents ourselves we value parent’s views and would like the best for our children, that is why they have both come to Riverside Rascals – this is the standard that I expect us to offer both you and your child.
I would like to give you some information about my past experience to assure you that I have over 30 years experience in this field as well as being a full time mum to my own two children.
My family and I are all from the local area and still living in Argyll. Since having my own family we wanted to return to the area, and purchasing Riverside Rascals in 2005 was the perfect opportunity to fulfill our dream.
I started my career in the field qualifying at James Watt College in Greenock as a Nursery Nurse in 1987. After working for a period an opportunity arose for me to live in Spain and work in an International School. I worked there for seven years. Over this time I learnt a lot about about diversity and different cultures. In 1996 I moved to Banbury Oxfordshire assuming the role as Deputy Manager at the college nursery. The following year I gained promotion to Nursery Manager. This was a large role where I was responsible for a 50 place nursery and 18 staff. At this time I became an assessor in NVQ and set up training workshops for students undertaking training. I was in this post for six years before moving to Oxford Brookes University taking on the role as Nursery & Childcare Services Manager. I managed and developed a team of 20 staff and a 60 place nursery. I was then appointed Development Manager to develop from the birth a neighbourhood nursery working with families who were underprivileged. The essence of this support was to support parents to return to work or education.
On 1st January 2005 we purchased Riverside Rascals Day Nursery. In June of that year the Care Inspectorate praised us as a team on the work we had done in developing the service. Since this time we have continued to grow from strength to strength. In 2006 my son was born. As well as being a full time mum I returned to work this year completing my PDA in Childcare and Education. I also studied at The University of Glasgow for three years and in 2012 was awarded my BA in Childhood Practice. I have a passion for working in childcare, putting children and families first. As a team we are working towards becoming the Centre of Excellence and meeting the individual needs of all children.
In June 2010 due to the development of the nursery a new management structure was put into place. Emma Jane MacArthur was appointed the post of Nursery Manager, taking over the day to day running of the nursery. Emma is a fully qualified practitioner having attained her HNC in Childcare and Education from Glasgow College of Nautical Studies in 2002, and working in childcare from this time. She has a passion and drive for working in childcare and ensuring both you and your child have access to a quality service. Emma took a year’s sabbatical in 2008 where she lived and travelled in Australia for a year. On her return her commitment to childcare was just as strong and she began studying towards her PDA in Childhood Practice with James Watt College, achieving this in 2011. As part of the nursery’s on-going commitment to improvement and development Emma enrolled on the BA Childhood Practice course in 2011 which she has now achieved and we are all extremely proud of her.
I am always available for all parents and staff - and always free for some messy play and jumping in the puddles with the children.
